Abhrak is a mineral compound which consists of silicon, magnesium, calcium, potassium and aluminum in traces. According to modern science, there are two types of Abhrak: Ferromagnesium Mica and Alkaline Mica.
According to Ayurveda, Abhrak is of four types: Pinak, Naag, Manduk, Vajra. It is again subdivided according to colors into four types: Yellow, White, Red and Black.
Abhrak is used in Ayurveda in the form of bhasma which is a fine powder. It is generally used to manage male sexual problems like low sperm count and lack of sexual desire due to its ability to increase sperm count and aphrodisiac property.
Abhrak bhasma might be good for diabetics as it helps manage blood glucose levels due to its blood glucose lowering (hypoglycemic) activity. Aloe vera is a cactus-like succulent plant with a clear healing gel in the leaves. There are many species of Aloe vera but the most commonly used is Aloe barbadensis.

According to Ayurveda, Anantamul is known to possess Ropan (healing) and Raktashodhak (blood purifying) properties which makes it an important ingredient in various Ayurvedic skin medicines. It can be used externally as well as internally in all types of skin problems like ringworm, thrush, psoriasis, eczema and bacterial-related skin disease.
Applying a paste of Anantamul root on the skin helps to get rid of ringworm and other bacterial infections due to its antimicrobial activity. Anantamul kwath (decoction) as well as its powder has blood purifying property and can be taken twice a day to manage various skin problems.

Arjuna helps reduce the risk of heart diseases. It strengthens and tones the heart muscles and helps in proper functioning of the heart. Arjuna tree also has strong anti-hypertensive property and helps reduce high blood pressure. For maximum benefits in case of heart problems, Arjuna chaal boiled in milk should be taken 1-2 times a day.
Arjuna also helps control diarrhea, asthma and cough.
External application of Arjuna bark (Arjuna chaal) helps manage various skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis, itching and rashes[2-5].
One note of caution is to avoid Arjuna with anticoagulant drugs as it has blood thinning property.
Arogyavardhini Vati as suggested by its name “Arogya-good health, Vardhini-improves” is an Ayurvedic preparation that helps to improve overall health. It is also known as Sarvarog “Prashmani” which signifies a remedy for all kinds of illnesses.
Owing to its ayurvedic property to balance all three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), it has been used to manage a gamut of health conditions. Arogyavardhini Vati helps to manage the digestive problem due to its Deepan and Pachan properties. It also helps to maintain body weight and other complications of the digestive system by improving metabolism and expelling waste products from the body because of its Shodhana (detoxification) nature. Arogyavardhini Vati is also widely used for skin disorders due to Pitta balancing quality[1]. However, it should be kept in mind that scientific research on Arogyavardhini is very limited, so it is advised to be used after consulting a doctor.
Not much scientific information is available about the side effects caused by the use of Arogyavardhini.
However, always consult an ayurvedic expert before taking this Ayurvedic formulation and follow the dosage strictly. The major concern with self-medicating Ayurvedic preparations is the presence of metal contents like mercury and lead in them.
The sensitive population groups including pregnant, lactating women, children, and people with serious health conditions should avoid Arogyavardhini Vati. People who are advised Arogyavardhini should stick to the prescribed dose strictly. Overdose can pose health issues
Ashoka, known as the Ashoka briksh is one of the most ancient and sacred trees found all over India. Ashoka has various medicinal properties, especially its bark and leaves.
Ashoka helps to manage various gynecological and menstrual problems in women such as heavy, irregular and painful periods. It can be taken in the form of churna/powder or capsule twice a day after meals to get relief from abdominal pain and spasms. Taking Ashoka bark juice or kwath can also promote healthy skin due to its blood purifying property.
According to Ayurveda, Ashoka is useful in controlling internal bleeding, especially in the case of piles due to its Kasaya (astringent) property. The word Ashwagandha is derived from the Sanskrit words Ashwa (horse) and Gandha (smell). This is because its roots smell like the sweat of a horse.
Ashwagandha helps in the management of stress, anxiety and diabetes due to its Rasayana (rejuvenating) and Vata balancing properties. Ashwagandha root powder, when taken with milk, helps in managing male infertility as well as erectile dysfunction. This is due to its aphrodisiac property.

Atibala or Indian mallow which means “Very Powerful” is also known as Indian mallow. It is a common roadside weed, which is grown in hotter parts of India as a weed. In traditional systems of medicine, various parts such as roots, leaves, flowers, bark, seeds, and stems are used. The plant possesses anti-inflammatory, antihyperlipidemic, diuretic, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, immunomodulatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, anti-malarial, wound healing, and anti-diarrheal properties. These properties help to manage diseases like boils and ulcers, fever, urethritis, syphilis, cataract, diarrhea, leg pains, uterus displacement, snakebite, piles, gonorrhea, cough, hemorrhagic septicemia, leprosy, dry cough and bronchitis.
Atis, also known as Ativisha, is a tall herb mainly grown in the Himalayan region. It is a characteristic species of Nepal, Chumbi area, and Sikkim.
Atis is effective in maintaining a healthy digestive system due to its carminative property. It is also helpful in diarrhea as it inhibits the growth of pathogenic microorganisms due to its antibacterial activity. Atis might also aid in weight loss as it lowers the levels of triglycerides and increases levels of HDL- cholesterol (“good cholesterol”). As per Ayurveda, it helps manage the symptoms of diabetes due to its Tikta (bitter) and Kapha balancing properties. Atis powder when consumed with honey helps to manage cough and cold due to its Ushna (hot) nature and removes the accumulated mucus.

Babool is also known as the “Healing tree” as all of its parts (bark, root, gum, leaves, pods, seeds) are used for various medicinal purposes.
According to Ayurveda, chewing small pieces of fresh Babool bark is good for managing oral health problems as it strengthens gums and teeth due to its astringent property. Babool also helps in the management of diarrhea by decreasing intestinal motility due to its Keshya property. It also provides relief from cold and cough symptoms as well as sore throat by promoting the removal of sputum from the air passages and eases breathing. Badi Elaichi, also known as Black Cardamom is a spice crop cultivated in the central Himalayan and north-eastern region of India. It is a well-known spice that has been used in many Ayurvedic preparations from ancient times due to its great medicinal value.

Baheda is also known as “Bibhitaki” in Sanskrit which means “The one that keeps away from diseases”. It is one of the main constituents of “Triphala” which is used for the management of common cold, pharyngitis and constipation. Baheda tree is a large deciduous tree found in the greater part of India. All parts of the tree are used for medicinal purposes, especially the dried fruit. The fruits of Baheda are astringent (bitter) and acrid (sour) in taste.
Baheda is beneficial in relieving cough and cold symptoms due to its antimicrobial and anti-allergic properties. Dairy Ghee is pure, nutritious and is considered healthier as it is a rich source of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K). It provides strengthening to the bones and gives nourishment and strength to the body.
Ghee is the most widely used milk product in the Indian diet that promotes proper digestion and absorption of food which reduces the accumulation of toxins in the body. It also helps in weight loss by controlling the appetite and reducing the urge to overeat.
According to Ayurveda, regular use of Ghee in your daily diet helps to fight against recurrent infections to increase immunity. Ghee also helps to provide relief from constipation by promoting bowel movements due to its laxative property. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is an Ayurvedic herb most commonly known for its immunity boosting, aphrodisiac and rejuvenation properties. Its name is derived from two sanskrit words; ‘Go’ meaning cow and ‘Aakshura’ meaning hoof, as the fruits of this plant resemble the hooves of cows.

Consumption of 2 to 4 cups of Green Tea is sufficient for weight loss and other health benefits.
Green Tea is also beneficial for skin health. It aids in better blood circulation and reduces premature aging due to its antioxidant nature. Topical application of Green Tea polyphenol-formulated skin care products can be beneficial in achieving soft, supple and younger-looking skin. Green Tea can also be beneficial for preventing hair loss, dandruff, baldness and psoriasis due to its anti-inflammatory and stress-inhibitory properties.

Guava can be taken in different forms such as tea, juice, syrup, powder and capsule for medicinal purposes. Guava leaves are used to prepare herbal tea which protects the body against certain illnesses due to its antioxidant activity. It also helps improve digestion. Gudmar is a wood climbing shrub whose leaves are used for medicinal purposes.
Gudmar or Gurmar is considered to be a magical remedy for diabetic patients as it is highly effective in both type I and type II diabetes mellitus. It reduces blood sugar levels by enhancing the level of insulin in the body. You can also take Gudmar (Gurmar) churna or kwatha with water to help manage cholesterol by reducing the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and increasing good cholesterol (HDL).
Applying Gudmar leaves powder along with coconut oil once a day helps to reduce itching, burning sensations on the skin and also helps in effective wound healing.

Guggul is also known as “Pura” which means “wards off disease”. It is used as a source of commercial “Gum guggul”. The major bioactive component of Guggul is oleo-gum-resin (a mixture of an oil and yellowish or brownish fluid secreted from the plant stem or bark). It is this oleo-gum resin that is said to have therapeutic benefits.
According to Ayurveda, Guggul is useful in weight management as it helps to improve metabolism and reduce Ama (toxic remains in the body due to improper digestion) by increasing the digestive fire. It also helps to reduce swelling, pain and stiffness in joints in case of osteoarthritis as well as rheumatoid arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties. Guggul might also be helpful in managing blood cholesterol levels by lowering total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL or bad cholesterol) and triglyceride levels.
Guggul can be taken in the form of powder, tablet or capsule to help reduce the production of sebum which inhibits the growth of acne-causing bacteria due to its antibacterial property.
Applying a paste of Guggul mixed in warm water on the joints helps to reduce joint pain.
It should be kept in mind that Guggul should always be chewed well before swallowing in order to get the maximum benefits.
Hadjod or Bonesetter is an ancient plant commonly used in India. It is famous for its fracture healing properties due to various antioxidants such as phenols, tannins, carotenoids, and Vitamin C present in it. As per Ayurveda, consuming Hadjod juice along with cow’s ghee or a cup of milk helps in healing bone fractures due to its Sandhaniya (promoting the union of fractured parts) property.

Himalayan salt, also known as Pink salt, is considered as the most superior salt in Ayurveda. The color of the salt ranges from white to pink or dark red due to the high content of iron and other minerals present in it.
It is said to contain 84 minerals including calcium, chloride, sodium and zinc. It maintains electrolyte balance in the body, relieves muscle cramps and keeps the body hydrated.
Himalayan salt is beneficial for the formation and strengthening of bones due to its calcium and magnesium content.
Massaging your face with Himalayan salt helps to remove dead skin and cleanses the skin. It can also be used along with some carrier oil to massage joints to reduce stiffness. Soaking your feet in warm water containing Himalayan salt helps to get rid of edema due to its electrolyte balancing property.
It is advisable to avoid excessive intake of Himalayan salt as it may cause problems like high blood pressure and swelling.
Himsra, also known as Caper bush, is a perennial shrub that grows in the Mediterranean countries. Capers, the unripened flower buds of this plant have a tangy, exotic taste and can be added to food as seasoning or for garnishing.
Himsra is beneficial in managing arthritis as it reduces pain and inflammation due to its antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties. As per Ayurveda, it has Vata balancing properties which helps to reduce the symptoms of arthritis. It also protects the liver because by reducing oxidative stress due to its antioxidant properties. Jaggery is known to produce heat and provides instant energy to the human body. It prevents constipation due to its laxative property and activates digestive enzymes. As per Ayurveda, eating Jaggery daily after meals improves digestion due to its Ushna (hot) property.
Eating Jaggery might also help in weight loss by preventing retention of water in the body due to the presence of potassium in it.

Jhau is an evergreen shrub. All parts of this plant have medicinal properties (leaves, flowers, roots) due to the presence of various constituents like saponins, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, phenols, alkaloids, steroids etc.
Jhau roots show liver-protecting property due to the presence of antioxidants that prevent liver cell damage. It also provides relief from gas and strengthens the digestive system due to its carminative property. The flavonoids present in Jhau help to reduce hepatic and spleen inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory property.

Jivak is an orchid that forms colonies in shady places or moist and wet grounds.It is majorly found in Uttrakhand, India, and is known for its medicinal properties. It is an important ingredient of “Chyawanprash” from ancient times.
Externally, Jivak is beneficial for protecting skin from harmful radiation as it possesses photo-protective activity. In addition, it also prevents skin aging due to its antioxidant and anti-aging properties. In Ayurveda, Jivak is useful in managing joint pain or pain associated with the wound due to its Vata balancing property.
As per Ayurveda, it helps manage diarrhea due to its Vata and Pitta balancing. It is also helpful in bronchitis due to its Vata and Kaph balancing properties. Jivak also maintains the overall health of a person due to its Rasayana (rejuvenating) property. Taking Jivak Chyawanprash protects from infection by strengthening the immune system.

Jojoba is a drought resistant perennial plant and is valued for its oil yielding capacity. Certain products obtained from Jojoba seeds such as liquid wax and Jojoba oil are extensively used in the cosmetic industry.
Jojoba is beneficial for managing acne and helps in reducing redness, pain and inflammation associated with psoriasis due to its antibacterial and antiinflammatory activity. It is also effective against scars, wrinkles and stretch marks because of its moisturising as well as antioxidant properties and its ability to penetrate deep into the skin.

Kachnar is also known as Mountain Ebony or Rakta Kanchan is an ornamental plant planted in gardens, parks, and roadsides in many warm temperate and subtropical regions. All parts of the plant (leaves, flower buds, flower, stem, stem bark, seeds, and roots) possess medicinal benefits.
Kachnar leaves are beneficial in managing diabetes by reducing blood glucose levels and improving lipid profile due to the presence of antioxidants. Kachnar stem might help manage weight by improving metabolism.
As per Ayurveda, consuming Kachnar powder along with honey or lukewarm water helps manage the thyroid due to its Tridosha balancing and Deepan (appetizer) properties.

Kalijiri, also known as Bitter Cumin, is a commonly grown plant in India and Southeast Asia. The seeds are brownish in color, with a sharp bitter taste. Raw seeds are difficult to consume directly. They are traditionally used as an ingredient of classical Ayurvedic preparations.
Kalijiri seeds are beneficial in respiratory problems like asthma due to the presence of bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also useful in vitiligo due to its ability to promote melanin synthesis.
Kalijiri is used as an ingredient in Ayurvedic creams and oils used for managing skin infections due to its antibacterial properties. Malkangani, also known as “Staff tree” or ‘Tree of Life’, is a large woody climbing shrub.
Its oil is beneficial for hair and is used as a hair tonic. The application of Malkangani on the scalp makes hair healthy and helps reduce dandruff due to its antifungal property. Malkangani is also used for managing dermal problems such as eczema. Malkangani leaves have strong wound healing activity and help reduce pain and inflammation due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
According to Ayurveda, Malkangani powder can be taken along with honey or water to help manage pain and swelling due to osteoarthritis due to its vata balancing property.
Consuming Malkangani oil with lukewarm water once a day helps in enhancing memory due to its Medhya (improves intelligence) property
Mandukaparni is an ancient herb and the name has been derived from Sanskrit which means (the leaf resembles the feet of a frog). It is a controversial drug since ancient times and is often confused with Brahmi because Brahmi is one that promotes the intellect and that is why many herbs with similar effects get confused. In Ayurveda, this is an important ingredient of several compound formulations. Mandukaparni belongs to the group of drugs known as Medhya Rasayanas (psychotropic drugs). The presence of bioactive constituents makes the herb a potent memory enhancer, imparts anti-convulsant, anti-depressant, wound healing, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial activity. Consumption of Mandukaparni also manages the risk of duodenal and gastric ulcers, central nervous system, skin and gastrointestinal disorders
Mango, commonly known as Aam, is called the “King of Fruits”. It is one of the most consumed fruits during the summer season.
Mangoes are an excellent source of nourishment for the body as they are a rich source of vitamin A, vitamin C, iron and potassium. Due to this, the appropriate daily intake of Mango, alone or along with milk, can help improve appetite, boost energy levels and might also be useful in managing anorexia. It also improves immune health and protects from heat stroke.
According to Ayurveda, Mango seed powder taken with water or honey might help manage diarrhea due to its Kashaya (astringent) property.
You can also apply Mango seed oil to wounds as it promotes quick healing and reduces swelling due to its Ropan (healing) property
Manjistha or Indian Madder is considered to be one of the best blood-purifying herbs. It is mainly used to break down blockages in the blood flow and remove stagnant blood.
Manjistha herb can be used both internally and externally on skin for promoting skin whitening. Applying Manjistha powder along with honey or rose water (at least 2-3 times a week) helps manage acne and pimples by inhibiting the growth of acne-causing bacteria due to its antioxidant property. Topical application of Manjistha oil and coconut oil reduces inflammation and skin rashes associated with acne due to its anti-inflammatory property. As per Ayurveda, taking Manjistha powder after lunch and dinner helps manage diarrhea due to its Deepan (appetizer) and Pachan (digestive) properties. Consuming Manjistha on a regular basis might be good for diabetics as it lowers the blood glucose levels.
Excessive consumption of Manjistha might cause constipation due to its Guru and Kashaya properties. So, It is advisable to take Manjistha with hot water, if you already have any digestion-related problem
Masoor Dal, known as Lentil in English, is one of the most ancient legume crops. It has high nutritional value as it is a rich source of protein, fiber and minerals and has low-fat content.
Masoor Dal is beneficial for the skin as it keeps the skin moisturized and healthy due to the presence of vitamin B. It also helps in managing acne as it is a good source of zinc and has anti-inflammatory properties. Applying a face pack made of Masoor Dal powder along with milk or honey on the face acts as a natural scrub and helps in managing facial hair.
Masoor Dal has many health benefits when incorporated into the diet. Mehendi or Henna is the symbol of joy, beauty and sacred rituals in the Hindu culture. It is cultivated for cosmetic and pharmaceutical purposes. All parts of this plant (root, stem, leaf, flower pod and seeds) are of great medicinal importance.
The most important part of the plant being the leaves which contain a coloring compound known as Lawson (red orange dye molecule).
Mehendi, apart from its cosmetic uses, is generally applied on the skin to help manage all types of skin conditions like itching, allergies, skin rashes and wounds due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Mehendi is also beneficial for hair as it acts as a natural dye for hair, promotes hair growth, conditions the hair and provides shine to the hair.
Ayurveda recommends the use of Mehendi due to its Ropan (healing) property and Sita (cold) nature. Applying Mehendi on the scalp removes excess oil and keeps the scalp dry due to it's Kashaya (astringent) and Ruksha (dry) properties which helps manage dandruff.

Mooli or Radish is a root vegetable that has a number of medicinal properties. It can be consumed in a raw, cooked or pickled form due to its high nutritional content. It is one of the most loved vegetables during winters in India. Mooli (Radish) leaves are rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6, magnesium, phosphorus, iron and calcium. They helps in bone building as it is a good source of calcium.
Mooli might help in weight loss as it is low in calories, helps improve digestion and enhances body metabolism due to the presence of fibers. It also helps improve diabetic conditions due to its antioxidant property as it fights against the free radicals and prevents cell damage. Taking Mooli juice before food is considered beneficial for urinary diseases such as urinary tract infections due to its diuretic property. Multani Mitti, commonly known as “Fuller’s earth” is a nature’s gift for skin and hair. It is white to yellowish in color, odorless and tasteless. It is a natural solution for acne, scars, oily and dull skin.
Multani mitti helps to remove excess oil from the skin and prevents pimples as it has absorbent property. It also has cleansing and cooling property due to which it removes excess dirt from skin.
Multani mitti when mixed with rose water can be applied on the skin to help manage acne due to its astringent and antimicrobial property. It also helps to clean the scalp and manage dandruff. When applied to the hair, Multani mitti imparts shine to hair and prevents hair loss. You can also apply it along with olive oil or coconut oil to increase the volume of hair.
Multani mitti should be applied by mixing it with rosewater for oily skin and for dry skin it should be used with milk, honey or curd
Munakka is known as the “Tree of Life” because of its regenerative ability. It has a sweet taste and is generally used as a dry fruit, mostly for medicinal purposes.
Munakka is useful for managing constipation due to its laxative property and helps to control acidity due to its cooling property.
It is effective in dry cough and respiratory tract inflammation due to its cough suppressant and soothing properties. It also maintains blood pressure levels by increasing nitric oxide in the blood which helps to widen narrowed blood vessels thereby improving blood flow.
Munakka can either be taken in dried form or soaked overnight to improve digestion.
Applying Munakka paste over wounds helps in faster healing due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Munakka face mask can be applied on the skin to prevent wrinkles and aging due to its antioxidant property
Mung Daal or Mudga in Sanskrit and also known as “Green Gram”. It is commonly used pulse (seeds and sprouts) as a daily food article which contains abundant nutrients with biological activities. Few activities which possess various health benefiting bioactive compounds are antioxidant, anti-diabetic, antimicrobial, anti-hyperlipidemic and antihypertensive effects, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer, anti-tumor, and anti-mutagenic. Regular consumption of mung beans could regulate the flora of enterobacteria, decrease the absorption of toxic substances, reduce the risk of hypercholesterolemia and coronary heart disease. Highly efficient use of mung beans according to evidence in different areas are food, medicine, and cosmetic.
Muskmelon or Kharbooja, also called as “Madhuphala” in Ayurveda is a nutrient-rich fruit. Muskmelon seeds are also rich in nutrients and have been used for various culinary purposes.
It is a beneficial summer fruit as it has cooling and diuretic properties that help to keep the body hydrated as well as eliminate toxins from the body.

Mustard oil, commonly known as Sarso ka Tel, is extracted from the seeds of mustard plant. It has a characteristic pungent flavor and a strong aroma. It is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and minerals and is considered one of the healthiest oils.
Mustard oil is loaded with natural fats which can prove to be beneficial for hair. Massaging scalp with the mustard oil provides deep conditioning and increases hair growth due to the presence of certain vitamins and fatty acids.
It also has anti-aging properties that prevent skin cell damage and provide protection to the skin with the help of certain antioxidants. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of Mustard oil fights against certain skin infections. Nagarmotha oil is an effective home remedy for managing stomach disorders due to its antispasmodic and carminative properties. Nagarmotha oil also helps manage diabetes due to its antioxidant property. It prevents cell damage caused by free radicals and protects the body from certain diseases. It also has anti-diarrheal property as it prevents the formation of watery stools due to the presence of flavonoids.

Nagkesar is beneficial in relieving cold and cough as it removes excess mucus from the lungs. This also gives relief from certain symptoms of asthma. Taking Nagkesar powder along with honey or lukewarm water once or twice a day helps reduce fever by lowering the body temperature due to its antipyretic property. It also helps manage bleeding piles, dysentery and stomach irritation due to its astringent property.
According to Ayurveda, Nagkesar is good for improving digestion due to its Laghu (easy to digest) property.

Neem tree has a strong place in the world of medicine and wellness. Every part of the Neem plant can be used against various infectious diseases.
Neem can be taken orally and also be applied on the affected skin area to manage various skin problems like acne, pimples, skin rashes and skin allergies. It is also used to reduce the symptoms of psoriasis, eczema and ringworm infection.
Taking a Neem tablet after meals daily can be beneficial for diabetic patients as it may help lower blood sugar levels.
Neem oil can be applied to get rid of head lice and can also help manage wounds (like diabetic ulcers) in diabetic patients. Neem twigs, if used regularly, can help prevent dental problems like gingivitis, cavities and tooth decay.
It is advisable to avoid the consumption of Neem during pregnancy as it may cause a miscarriage.
In some cases, Neem might cause vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness and skin allergies if taken more than the recommended dosage.
Nirgundi is a large aromatic shrub found mostly in the warmer zone of India. In Indian traditional medicine system, it is referred as ʽsarvaroganivaraniʼ – the remedy for all diseases.
Nirgundi might be helpful in managing diabetes by improving insulin levels due to its antioxidant property. It also helps manage inflammatory reactions by inhibiting the activity of certain mediators due to its anti-inflammatory property. So, As per Ayurveda ,consuming Nirgundi powder two times a day or applying Nirgundi paste to the affected area helps manage arthritis and provides relief from pain due to its Vata balancing property. The root powder of Nirgundi might also help in case of piles by reducing the irritation of inflamed tissue.
Nirgundi is beneficial for hair growth. Massaging with oil obtained from Nirgundi leaves along with sesame seed oil can help manage grey hair and scalp infections.
In some cases, Nirgundi might cause stomach upset and mild skin rashes on skin.
Nisoth, also known as Indian jalap, is a medicinal herb having various health benefits. There are two varieties of the plant (black and white), and dried roots of the white variety are mostly used for its medicinal properties.
As per Ayurveda, Nisoth is useful in the management of constipation. Nisoth churna promotes bowel movements when taken with warm water due to its Rechna (laxative) property. It also helps manage bacterial infections due to its strong antibacterial property. Taking Nisoth juice with a glass of water every morning on an empty stomach helps manage fever by lowering the body temperature due to its antipyretic activity. Nisoth consumption might help reduce the risk of gastric ulcers, hyperacidity and gastrointestinal tract-related problems due to its antiulcer activity.
It is generally advisable to monitor the blood glucose level if you are taking Nisoth along with any anti-dabetic drug as it may cause a sudden drop in blood sugar level.
Nutmeg or Jaiphal is a seed that can be ground and is commonly used as a spice. The fleshy red net-like skin cover on the seed kernel of Nutmeg is known as Mace or Javitri which is also used as a spice.
Nutmeg helps reduce anxiety as well as depression due to its antidepressant property. Its intake as a spice in your regular diet helps enhance digestion. Moreover, since ages, Nutmeg has been used as a home remedy to manage diarrhea and gas in babies. It also helps reduce inflammation and gives relief from joint pain.
Nutmeg is extensively used as part of a number of Ayurvedic medicines and formulations used to promote sexual health.
Nutmeg butter, a fat derived from the seed, is used in perfumery and toothpastes. Applying Nutmeg powder along with honey or milk on your skin helps control excess oil and removes pigmentation.
